CCTV Operator Training Provider.
A Public Space Surveillance (CCTV) licence is required when manned guarding activities are carried out through the use of closed circuit television equipment to:
- monitor the activities of a member of the public in a public or private place; or
- identify a particular person.
This includes the use of CCTV in these cases to record images that are viewed on non-CCTV equipment, but excludes the use of CCTV solely to identify a trespasser or protect property.

Who is this qualification for?
This qualification is designed for those learners wishing to apply for a licence from the Security Industry Authority (SIA) to work as a CCTV Operator in Public Space Surveillance. This qualification is based on the relevant SIA specification for learning and qualifications and is supported by Skills for Security, the standards setting body for the security industry and the SIA, which regulates the private security industry.
How long will it take?
To complete this qualification learners are expected to undertake 32-hours of learning. The SIA stipulates a minimum of 23 contact hours, it is delivered over 3 days with a large amount of pre-course reading and written tasks to complete.
These include the key purposes of the private security industry, the differences between civil and criminal Law, the roles and responsibilities of each member of the CCTV team, the importance of accurate record-keeping, equipment fault reporting procedures, and actions to take if a suspicious object is found in the CCTV control room.
The qualification comprises three mandatory units:
•Unit 1 - Working within the Private Security Industry
•Unit 2 - Working as a CCTV Operator within the Private Security Industry
•Unit 3 - Practical Operation of CCTV equipment within the Private Security Industry

Upon successful completion of this course you will then need to apply to the SIA for a licence at an additional cost of £190.
